Membership

WAABEE is a non-profit self-help association dedicated to supporting the Oromo community in the DMV area. It is committed to building strong bonds and supportive networks among its members, fostering a sense of belonging, and empowering the community to thrive while making a positive impact.

Membership Benefits

As a member of the WAABEE Self-Help Association, you gain access to a supportive community that provides financial and social assistance during significant life events.

Membership benefits include:

  • Financial assistance during funerals and grief-related expenses.
  • Support for members facing job loss due to illness.
  • Contributions for marriage and family reunions.
  • Emergency financial assistance for visiting family members.
  • Participation in special fundraising initiatives for the Oromo community in North America and abroad.
  • Social gatherings and networking opportunities.

Membership Process

Individuals seeking membership in The Association must complete the application form and adhere to the outlined procedures. Membership initiation/reinstate is subject to approval by the Executive Committee.

The one-time non-refundable membership fee is $100. Members must also contribute $20 monthly to maintain their membership status.

Full membership is granted after six months of contributions or a lump sum payment.

Failure to pay dues for a year results in termination. Reinstatement requires settling past dues and committee approval

 

Eligibility:

  • Commitment: Membership is open to individuals who uphold social norms and follow the Association’s regulations.
  • Dependents: Must be registered on the application form to be considered for benefits.
  • Bylaw Adherence: Members must understand and comply with the Association’s bylaws.
  • Participation: Members are encouraged to engage in committees, initiatives, and activities.
  • Rights: Members can vote, be nominated for roles, and petition for general meetings.
  • Withdrawal: Members may voluntarily withdraw, but no refunds will be provided for fees paid
